Overview
A playful and boldly theatrical adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, Sense and Sensibility runs February 6–15, 2026 at Pumphouse Players. The story follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially insecure and socially vulnerable. Sensible Elinor and passionately emotional Marianne navigate love, heartbreak, gossip, and societal expectations in late 18th-century England, where reputation is everything and decorum often clashes with desire.
With a fresh perspective, Kate Hamill’s adaptation is fast-paced, witty, and emotionally rich—balancing sharp humor with moments of genuine tenderness. This inventive retelling examines how we respond, both wisely and foolishly, to pressure, loss, and love. When the rules of society demand restraint, how do you follow your heart?
