George Washington Carver Park
Overview
Located on Lake Allatoona, George Washington Carver Park was founded in 1950 and was the first “Georgia State Park for Negroes.” Well-known entertainers and the only black water ski club in Georgia performed here. Among other famous people, Georgia’s first black Supreme Court Justice Robert Benham, a native of Cartersville, spent his summers here. Today it is fondly known as the “The Beach.” Open to the pubic it offers an indoor pavilion which is available to rent.
